Opel began production in 1862. Initially, the company manufactured sewing machines, and later bicycles as well. Car production began in 1898. The Opel Admiral was produced from 1937 to 1939; during this period, 6,404 cars and 2,314 four-door convertibles were manufactured. At the 1937 Berlin Auto Show, this model was recognized as one of the most beautiful, surpassing even Mercedes and Horch models. Thanks to the extended, flowing line of its rear end, this model earned the nickname “Beaver Tail” at the show. The convertible body was manufactured at the “Glaser” coachbuilding factory in Dresden.
