Diana
Several large trading firms and representative offices of foreign manufacturers with mechanical workshops were engaged in assembling bicycles from imported parts. This allowed them to circumvent Latvian customs laws and make a profit more easily. Some companies retained the original factory brand name, while others assigned their own trademarks to the bicycles they assembled. For example, E. Daniel’s representative office in Riga, located at 21 Merķeļa Street, sold German “Naumann” bicycles under the name “Rīga-Special.” Meanwhile, the representative office of the Swedish company “Husqvarna,” “Leimanis and Fley” (later “Leimanis Brothers”), at 7 Aspazijas Boulevard in Riga, assembled bicycles from parts purchased in Sweden and sold them under the name “Diāna.” In the late 1930s, the “Brāļi Leimaņi” store also began selling bicycles manufactured by the “A. Lippert” factory, branding them as “Diana Special.” In total, more than 50 workshops operated in Latvia during the 1920s and 1930s, where bicycles were manufactured or assembled from ready-made parts, and branded them with their own trademarks.
